It’s no secret that we’re all having a rough time with this pandemic. In one way or another, we’ve all been affected. If we haven’t lost a loved one to COVID-19, maybe we’ve lost a job, some hours at work, or even a business over it. It’s still early in the game, too. The virus seems likely to stick around for some time, making future prospects seem quite uncertain.
However, as it currently stands, YOU are still alive. If you’re reading this without assistance, it’s safe to say that you’re doing okay and likely not in intensive care. If you are as fortunate as I am in that regard, there is a whole lot to be grateful for.
Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that there are an awful lot of people out there who seem paralyzed by this thing and unsure of what to do with themselves. If you run your own business, as many of my readers do, you may have realized by now that you can’t afford the luxury of waiting this out. The employee mindset is to wait and see what the boss says and take it from there. But if you’re the boss, everyone is waiting on you.
Whether you have one employee, a dozen, or thousands, this is when they need you more than ever before. You’re the only one who truly knows where your company stands and whether or not it’s likely to survive the economic onslaught this had brought. If you’re in a business that can adapt, you’ve probably already attempted to do so and hopefully you’ve made some progress.
If so, PLEASE hang in there! It’s true that there are no guarantees, but your employees are looking to you for guidance and encouragement. You have brought them this far and you cannot fail them, as long as it is in your power to keep it all together. Keep in mind that they have a multitude of personal problems to deal with, just as you do, but you are the one in a position of influence.
It’s YOU that they look up to when there’s a work-related problem they can’t solve. Depending on your relationship, they might not even like you, but they STILL need YOU to set the pace and steer the company in the right direction. If it’s your company, YOU decided that this was what you wanted to do with yourself, rather than work for someone else. YOU decided that you were going to be the boss.
So LEAD!
These are difficult times and there are no easy answers for anyone. Just remember that there are even fewer answers for those on the bottom rungs of the ladder. It’s not only your employees that are depending on you, but also their families, who are hoping and praying that their loved one’s job is as secure as they once hoped.
If it’s not secure and you think your operation is going under, at least don’t mislead them, just to keep stringing them along. Be up front with them and tell them how it is. I can assure you, you’re not going to shock them, because they’re quite aware of the current state of the world economy. If anything, they will always respect you for being an honest leader at a time of great confusion, when it seemed as though there was no one left to trust.
If you truly feel you were born to lead, then LEAD!
This is such a great article! Some people are uncertain about the future…they lost there job or uncertain if they will still have a job. So why waiting? Be the leader! Start something online, hire yourself, then you will be the leader and won’t worry about what tomorrow will bring us.
Absolutely, Carole! It’s far too easy to give up or wait around for things to get better. Unfortunately, there’s no telling how long that will take. It makes far more sense to take some kind of action.

Wow! This is coming from another angle entirely from what I was expecting and that made this post quite great to read and I really appreciate all you have said here. In all honest, it is time to take the mantle and saddle the affairs by ourselves and take our life into our hands. Having the willingness to take up the setting up of a business and own it would be a turning point here. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed reading it, Ella! Thanks for stopping by and best wishes to you!

Business owners are natural-born leaders. I can say that with confidence. It is not easy to handle people. Employees needs leaders so they can accomplish the goals of the establishment. The success of a business defines the owner. This businessman’s trait is tested in times challenges, be it natural-caused or otherwise. This pandemic is the real test. If there is a case study to handle business issues, this must be it. The negative toll imposed on the business is not only economic but most especially emotional. The business owner must indeed exude exemplary leadership in the many aspects of his business. Be creative in accessing the many relief programs provided by the government. Time to lead.
Absolutely, my friend. Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you for this great reminder! As someone who hasn’t really been affected by COVID-19, I actually choose to step up and actually start helping people through this crisis. Be it helping people to start making money online, or donating money to people who really need it for food at this current time.
I feel that if you can lead, this is definitely the best time to do so when everyone feels lost, trapped and alone in this crisis. I know this because many countries are currently in lockdown, including mine. People are feeling hopeless because of lost jobs and reduced incomes as well. So if you are in a position to lead, then definitely do it. It’s time to lead!
Absolutely, Terence! Never in recent history has it been as important as it is right now. Glad to hear you’ve stepped up to the challenge. We need so many more to do the same, right now.

This is an inspirational post and I love it! I wish every boss will see this.
Ibknow being at the top of the ladder isn’t easy but you gat to “lead”. And as the boss or the leader, as you are at home think of a way your company or business can survive in the lockdown or after it because everything might not be the same again, only those that step up their game will survive.
Absolutely, my friend. We can’t afford to let anything slide right now. Best wishes to you!
