Not long ago, there were only so many types of businesses you could start at home. Before the birth of the Internet, an aspiring entrepreneur needed a physical storefront from which to sell their goods and services. Even offering products through a mail-order system required paper catalogs that had to be printed and mailed to each client, at considerable cost to the business. The telephone would have been your most important tool, even though you couldn’t carry it in your pocket and voice calls would have been its only function.
Things have changed considerably, over the past couple of decades. High-speed Internet, portable connected devices, and numerous applications have created a new landscape for business and changed attitudes about the very nature of work. Even prior to Covid-19, up to half of American employees were already working out of their homes with a growing number of others doing some of their work outside the office. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the 10 best home based businesses you can get involved with today.
1. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to start an online business. Affiliate programs exist for virtually any niche you can think of and most are free to join. The way it works is that marketers promote these products online, typically through blog posts, videos, and online articles. When a reader purchases a product through one of their links, the marketer receives a commission. Commission rates can range from 5 to 50 percent, depending on the type of product being promoted.
Every market has products or services associated with it and you’d be hard pressed to find one that isn’t being promoted by affiliate marketers. Thanks to the emergence of free blogging platforms and free Internet marketing strategies, it’s entirely possible to get your business in motion without spending a dime. While it’s ultimately best to get your own hosting and your own domain, it’s not something you need to worry about when you’re getting started. The important thing is to find a niche you’re interested in, a reputable affiliate program for selling products related to that niche and a platform from which to promote it.
Another important consideration is getting some type of training and support to help you along the way. Wealthy Affiliate offers excellent training and support for both new and experienced affiliate marketers. Membership also provides access to a friendly community of fellow affiliate marketers with similar objectives. They even have a free starter membership that you can join, so you can try it out and decide for yourself if this is something you want to continue with.
2. Online Store
If affiliate marketing isn’t for you, you might want to consider selling your own products. There are a number of different platforms from which you can do so, though you may find that eBay is one of the easiest. They’ve been around for a couple of decades are there are numerous success stories associated with eBay businesses. If you’ve ever bought anything for yourself on eBay, you’ll have some familiarity with it, at least from a buyer’s perspective.
Online businesses are much easier to set up than brick-and-mortar operations, but you still can’t afford to be lazy. eBay rates their sellers and their rating system tends to favor the buyer, in the hopes of creating a better experience for them. A negative rating can severely cripple your business, so you’ll have to familiarize yourself with their return policies, respond quickly to your customers and ship their orders as quickly as possible. Remember that you’ll be facing lots of competition.
While there are various ways to acquire products, the easiest way to deal with the competition is to produce your own. This gives you an advantage over the dozens of other eBay stores that are fighting to sell the same popular items. While you can get started by simply selling things you already own, you will eventually run out of stuff to sell, at which point you’ll have to come up with new products.
In the long run, you’ll be far better off specializing in certain products. Successful eBay sellers are familiar with their products and know exactly how to market them to those most likely to want them. Because of the intense competition, research is very important and you must have a solid strategy. Note that eBay offers a number of different tools to help their sellers, including an extensive selling guide that’s particularly helpful to newbies.
Note that it’s not as easy as it used to be to sell things on eBay, but there are still a number of opportunities to do well. If you have unique products, crafts or something highly beneficial, it is possible to make lots of money on eBay. The potential for reaching such a wide audience with something truly unique is almost limitless, depending on what you have to offer. What’s important is that you know who your target market is and be able to provide the value they’re looking for.
Photography can be a fun and lucrative hobby. However, that doesn’t mean that just anyone with a smartphone can call themselves a photographer. Unlike other careers, you need some knowledge and experience to do this successfully. It’s also a very competitive field and clients can be very demanding. But if you have a true passion for it, you may find it to be very rewarding.
Wedding photography, stock photography, portrait photography, and photojournalism are just some of the paths you can explore. Note that photojournalism requires years of experience and in most cases, you won’t be able to do it out of your home. However, portrait photography and stock photography are ideal for a home based business. Just remember that stock photo websites are typically built on a revenue-sharing platform, meaning it’s highly unusual to simply sell your pictures to one of them.
While you won’t need any type of certification to get started with photography at home, it would be a good idea to take some classes at your local community college. You’ll learn how to take better pictures and edit them properly. Don’t forget that camera equipment can be very expensive. You’ll also need a computer and some editing software. So if you’re looking for a low-cost home business, photography might not be the way to go.
Note that running a photography business can be a complex operation. You’ll need lots of equipment and a hefty portfolio before you can expect to attract a large number of clients. For this reason, even portrait photography can be difficult for beginners. However, you should not allow this to deter you if this is a hobby you’ve been doing for some time. Remember that you can always pursue this as a side business until you’re able to do it exclusively.
4. Freelance Writing
Freelance writing is probably the least expensive home based business you can start. The only equipment you’ll need is a computer and fast, reliable Internet service. You’re essentially providing both a product and a service, since you’re hired to create digital products for individual customers, according to their specifications.
Keep in mind that much of what you read on the Internet is created by freelance writers. This includes most of the articles you read on professional sites (like law firms, real estate agencies, dental clinics, etc…) and many of the blog entries. The reason for this is that not everyone who owns a website is a good writer or has time to create web content. Busy professionals hire writers to do this type of work for them.
Note that you can choose from all types of writing work. You can create resumes, news articles, marketing materials or a wide variety of website content, depending on who your customer is. If your grammar and punctuation are really good, you might even be able to get a gig as a freelance editor. Either way, it’s hard to beat a job you can do from virtually anywhere that you can get an Internet connection.
Remember that there’s lots of work out there, but you’re not always going to find it in the same places or get it from the same clients. Therefore, you should always be looking for the next project and working on several different things. Join writing associations, attend workshops and take advantage of every opportunity to network with other writers. They might be able to provide you with valuable leads.
There are a number of different websites for freelance writers. The work you’ll find there isn’t always the most profitable, but it’s a great place to develop your skills while earning some money and discovering other writing opportunities. You can also set up your own site to advertise your services, as well as advertising on sites like LinkedIn and Craigslist. Don’t forget to check back with your previous clients, as they may need your services in the future.
5. Web Design
It can take a number of years to develop and perfect the skills required for a career in web design. But once you have developed them, there’s a large market out there for creating professional looking websites for various types of organizations. While there are some upfront costs involved, particularly concerning software, there’s plenty of money to be made in this type of business.
The key to being successful in this field is to define your target market and offer a unique type of service. Keep in mind that web design is a highly competitive field and you’re not only competing against other web designers, but also against software packages that are used for the same purpose. If you can offer something that no one else is offering, or offer it in a unique sort of way, your business will stand apart from everything else out there.
Blogging is related to freelance writing. You’ll find that when you’re creating freelance content for certain clients, many of them are actually publishing your content in their blogs. So when you set up a blog of your own, what you’re really doing is working the other side of the same business. Instead of creating content for others, you’re creating content that you have a personal interest in for your own websites.
There’s no limit to the number of topics and niches you can blog about and no limit to the amount of money you can make in this business. If you have specific knowledge or intense interest in a subject that others are also interested in, you can earn a great deal of money writing about it for your own websites. With that said, you’ll have to put some time into researching your chosen topics, to ensure that there is enough of a market for it and that you’ll be able to reach them.
You also don’t want to pick a niche with so much competition that you won’t be able to earn any money. Most niches can be whittled down to more specific sub-niches, where there’s less competition. You’ll have to look into this extensively, to get a better idea how far you can break yours down. For this reason, it’s good to have a list of several subjects you’re interested in, so you’ll have more to start with and struggle less with your first site.
There are multiple ways to make money from a blog, but the most popular ones involve selling either ad space or products. When it comes to ad space, you can either sell advertising directly or use Google AdSense and let the world’s biggest search engine take care of it for you, while you focus on creating content. When it comes to products, you can either sell your own or get into affiliate marketing, as mentioned in the first section of this post.
Affiliate marketing isn’t the only business blogging ties into. It can cost lots of money to have someone set up a professional looking website for you. But if you can create one of your own, you could find yourself with a business model that involves more than one of the businesses on this list here. Note that another great thing about Wealthy Affiliate is that you can use their training to learn how to create your own websites and save yourself a ton of money.
Keep in mind that it will take some time to start making money with blogging. It’s definitely not a get-rich-quick type of opportunity. But if you stick with it and keep learning as you go, you might find that you have the potential to become at least as successful as most of the professionals you know who work for other people. All this without the expensive education and stack of mostly useless degrees.
Similar to blogging, podcasting is another way to create content online and potentially make some money from it. It’s not the easiest way to do so, but there are plenty of options for creating revenue through podcasting. It’s worth looking into if you don’t mind speaking into a microphone for an audience.
The key to successful podcasting isn’t as much about generating a large number of listeners, as it is about getting them to engage. It’s better to have a small group of engaged listeners than a larger group that rarely participates. Keep in mind that it’s easy to discuss subjects within your own area of expertise. You’ll have to constantly remind your listeners to participate and get them as worked up as you can, so they will actually want to.
It’s not as easy to make money podcasting and some people make it seem, but it is possible for someone who’s willing to put themselves out there and give it all they’ve got. You don’t need lots of equipment, either. You can actually find free podcasting software online and use the built-in microphone on your laptop when you’re first getting started. This will give you a chance to get your feet wet and decide whether it’s something you want to continue, before spending money on professional podcasting equipment.
Tutoring is another type of business that is almost always in demand, especially given the current health crisis. While it’s needed in most areas, including those with community colleges, it’s particularly popular in areas with top universities. Competition to get into these universities is very tough and you’ll find that many parents will pay handsomely to get their kids tutored.
While people get tutored in all types of subjects, there are certainly some favorites. Math is a particularly important one, especially when it comes to the all-important math preparation tests that colleges require for their students. If you know how to advertise and market yourself to a local audience, you can make a good deal of money tutoring out of your home, at clients’ homes, or even at libraries and coffee shops.
What’s important is that you know your local market so you can set prices that your clients with be comfortable with and know which subjects parents in your area are most interested in finding tutors for. The more experience you have in a particular field, the more money you’ll be able to ask for. Keep in mind that if you make a reputation for yourself, you might find yourself getting calls from other parents who have heard about your services and need them for their own kids.
There are many businesses you can start from your home, but these are some of the most practical ones. Don’t be afraid to try, especially if you don’t mind hustling on the side while holding a regular job. It is risky to start a business, but in doing so, you’re taking your future into your own hands and developing valuable skills. Even if you don’t succeed, you will have learned many lessons that can be applied to other business ventures in the future.
This was very insightful. Thanks for the helpful post.
As we all know people are more interested to work from home and be their own boss. Your post is going to be a greater help to many.
I am a full-time blogger since December 2017 and I am a fan of Affiliate Marketing with Blogging. Being our own boss and working from home is really a great pleasure and at the same time needs a lot of discipline and effort.
As you mentioned having a regular job and trying any one of these jobs as part time is the wise thing to do. And once we started to earn money and when we see its consistently growing we can switch to focus full-time on our own business. That’s what I did.
Thanks for the great insights!
Wishing you great Success!
That’s awesome, Paul. Glad it worked out for you. It’s tough at first, but you’re investing in yourself and your future in the best possible way. It beats having your employment at the mercy of forces beyond your control. No one’s going to fire you or tell you that you can only earn so much or work so many hours. It’s all you! Thanks for stopping by!
With all the many different ways that one can earn online nowadays, there should actually be no excuse to be unemployed. Although the difference between working on the net for yourself and working for a boss is you get paid quicker and regularly with a boss and also straight away. With working for yourself you may take longer to earn enough to live on. But in the end, if you are willing to work hard, the freedom it gives you is well worth it.
Oh yes, it’s absolutely worth it. It’s a shame some people are afraid to give it a shot, especially with an online business. At least that way, you’re able to avoid all the costs associated with a traditional brick and mortar type business. Thanks for stopping by!
So many wonderful ideas for home based business. I really like how nowadays there are so many opportunities to work just from your home through online. Out of these I really like Pet Sitting. I like it because it is something I’m passionate about.
I’m going to give this a try .
Thank you so much for sharing this article with me.
Yes, pets are awesome! If I wasn’t a writer/blogger/marketer, I’d probably want a business involving pets, since I love animals. Best of luck to you, my friend. Thanks for stopping by!
You’ve definitely detailed some great home based businesses! I’ve been blogging and affiliate marketing for over a year now, and they’re both very lucrative ways to make money as long as you’re willing to put in the time and effort. You’re spot on when you say they’re not get-rich-quick schemes. But with effort and time, you can create a wonderful income stream!
Absolutely, Janelle! Yes, blogging and affiliate marketing do make a great combination. It does take work, but it’s definitely not the boring kind of work. I think it’s fun. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow! 2019 is round the corner isn’t it!
I have been thinking of podcasting for a while now. I know Amy Porterfield is quite good at that and holds interesting interviews with experts of their chosen fields. It is not as interactive as video but is useful if you don’t like being on camera.
Talking about being a freelance editor, I have just spent the past 5 months proof reading and copy editing my friend’s book. She is a financial consultant and psychotherapist. I asked to help do this and she finally agreed. She is really happy with my work and it is her first book
However, I prefer blogging on my own articles online. It is more fun and I can write about virtually anything about my interests that are decent. I really love to write!
To your success,
That’s awesome that you’re working on your friend’s book. Blogging is lots of fun, too. I see it as the ultimate home business, because if you have a dozen different businesses you’re interested in, obviously you can’t open them all. But you can make blogging your business and explore all 12 of those subjects as deeply as you want to and earn money doing so. Best wishes to you and thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for sharing with us this review on 10 best home based businesses.I can’t deny that many people nowadays are looking for making money online job.The problem is that they don’t know which home based business is better than another .
Whit this review full of information on home based businesses, you are helping people to find the real home based business they would choose to earn money online.I like affiliate marketing .What is your favourite home based business?
Absolutely, yes. I also favor affiliate marketing. I think it’s the easiest way to get involved in selling products without having to either source them or make them. Thanks for stopping by!
This is a very impressive list. Never had really thought of catering or tutoring. Regardless of the businesses you describe it would seem to me that most would require a web presence of some kind, so I think folks probably need to take that into consideration for any home business.
On the tutoring, my wife and I recently went through the college application process with our kids. Talk about a maze. But I keep encouraging my wife to write a short e-book or setup a little website to help other parents navigate this difficult landscape.
My point is that we all have experiences that are valuable to others and that others would pay for…
Thanks for the post.
Yes indeed, that would be helpful. It’s a pain dealing with college applications and I imagine there would be plenty of grateful parents who would appreciate a guide of that sort. Thank you and thanks for stopping by!
This is a very thorough and well considered article. Thank you. I run a personal training business out of my home. The business promotion and marketing happen at home and I travel to meet my clients outdoors or at their residence. I created the business website myself and promote it partially through blogs.
Diversifying income is also a good idea. A home-based entrepreneur can also invest in opportunities in a few of the professional opportunities on your list. For instance, photography could go well with pet sitting and blogging.
Thanks, Tammy! Yes, that is true. Several of them go well together. Blogging pretty much goes with anything, since you can blog about anything. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Mark thanks for the great information. I have been thinking about trying affiliate marketing but how do I find a reputable affiliate program?I like some of your other suggestions but I am more interested in doing something online and podcasting seems to have a certain appeal. You mention Wealthy Affiliate as a place to learn. Would they teach how to do podcasting?
Hi, Maureen. Wealthy Affiliate doesn’t teach podcasting explicitly, but I’ve seen it come up in questions in the members area. I know there are members who run podcasts from their own sites, and as with all members of the community, they’re more than willing to share their knowledge to other members who post questions on the subject.
Affiliate programs are fairly easy to find in a google search. For example, if you’re looking for an affiliate program for mineral water, you can simply type “mineral water + affiliate” into the search bar and you’ll get several results. But it may take some time to research the best ones and the training at WA teaches you how to evaluate them more thoroughly.
I would recommend signing up for the free membership and taking advantage of the opportunity to ask other members about things like podcasting, while you have access to them. You’d be amazed at how quickly you can get answers there and you’ll often find that several members will leave answers to your posted questions. After a few days, you’ll have a better idea what they have to offer and how this lines up to your goals.
Best wishes to you and thanks for stopping by!
I think most of us would really like to work from home, or at least make some extra money from home. Your ideas are great, and many of them can tie together. I love to write, so blogging and affiliate marketing are right up my alley. I like the idea of being able to blog and make money from it. I think I would actually be pretty good at web design as well. Thanks for helping me get the wheels spinning.
Anytime, Babsie. Yes, they do compliment each other quite well. Thanks for stopping by!
This is a brilliant article. When I read this article one thing that comes to my mind is: “balance”. There is balance in your thoughts, there is balance in your writing and there is balance in your text and photo’s.
As someone who is constantly exploring ideas for making money online your article is extremely helpful and something I would love to share with my audience.
Would you consider also giving ideas about best travel based businesses for 2019?
All the best and keep up the good work
Hello, Louis. Yes, absolutely! I have a number of posts planned and the idea of travel has been floating around for some time. I should have something on that fairly soon. And yes, feel free to share. I’d be more than happy to do the same for you, my friend. Thanks for stopping by!
Quite a short and nice precise list. I think affiliate marketing is the real deal because even most bloggers try to market one or two products on their blog. I’m really looking into photography but the cost of equipments is really a worry at the moment.
What do you have to say about dropshipping, think it’s a good business too
Yes, absolutely! Affiliate marketing is the way to go, at least where it concerns blogging. It takes a lot of traffic to make a decent amount of cash from ads, by comparison. At least with an affiliate program, you can make a cut from each sale.
As far as dropshipping goes, there is potential in it. I’ve sold a few things online, but never actually implemented a dropshipping strategy. What I do know is that it’s very competitive for those who want to just snatch something from walmart’s website and flip it on ebay or amazon. The profit margins are razor thin that way, because so many people are doing it. However, if you can work something out directly with a wholesaler, that’s probably your best bet. I’ll probably expand on this more in an upcoming blog, but that’s what I can see from the direction things are going. Best of luck to you and thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for coming up with the list. I have just talking to my friends over the weekend that I wanted to do some pet fitting since my full time job is so stressful. When I see pet they just make me happy. We will see I might be able to come up with a different angle like having an online service for pets. We will see.
Yes, definitely. Anything to do with pets is in high demand, these days. There will always be people who are maybe juggling their careers and their family time, who have difficulty looking after their pets, walking them, etc… Best of luck to you and thanks for stopping by!
Thanks for this eye opening post. Infact i have been pondering on what i could be doing from home to earn me cool dollars for months. Was laid off on my 8am – 5pm job. From the ten you made mention of i had already started blogging and also involved in Affiliate marketing via Wealthy Affiliates and i must confess that it has been fun all the way.Could you please help do a more detailed post sometime later on podcast. I still seem not to really get the full idea about it. Thanks for taking out time to post this educative article.
Yes, I have been planning one. It’ll be coming up soon. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow! there are so many things people can do from home or from any corner of the world and it is possible due to internet. I started my career as a freelance writer as you can choose your interest and write a blog for the client and get paid instantly. And there are many platform that are looking for quality writers and you can even earn more than 100 dollars for just one blog of 2000 words. This is a good option for people who loves to write.
Yes indeed, my friend! I started as a freelance writer, too. I still do it some, but as this site grows, I intend to move away from freelancing and focus more on my own websites. Thanks for stopping by!
This is quite informative for people like me who wants to make money online legitemately. Blogging is what aia’m really going into because my love for writting stuffs. But could gone for Freelancing but working for someone is not my thing. I just want want my own liberty. Podcasting is what I love too because I love my voice being heard. I just don’t how to go about it. Thanks for this info
Yes, I know what you mean. I still freelance, in addition to running this site. But I’m gradually moving away from it. Like you said, I’d rather not work for someone else. At least not unless I don’t have a choice. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for this post. I have a regular job and I have been looking for a part-time online business I can do without quiting my present job.
I have thought of freelance writing and tutoring. Your explanation of freelance is very helpful. I want to use my spare time to write as a freelancer. Thank you for the useful information.
That’s great! Best of luck to you, my friend. Thanks for stopping by!
Making money online is the way to go. Every beginning entrepreneur knows that the key to success is to work hard running their own business. There are many ways, as you clearly explained, how a person can make money online. When I first call myself, running an online business many years ago, the opportunities just wasn’t there (I’m talking early 1990’s.) There was more scams out there then every.
I didn’t have the luxury of running honest affiliate programs because there was very few offered. Photography was always around and I liked it, but never knew how to make money with this concept. Fast forward to 2019, and the serious entrepreneur now has a wide range of opportunities at their disposal.
That’s awesome! Best of luck to you, my friend. And thanks for stopping by!
Working from is the best thing anyone can ever aim to achieve because you have all the time to yourself to travel far and wide and still be able to do your work as far there is network coverage in that location.
I hate to have a boss that will pushing me around to do this do that, its crap to really take orders i hate it.
I one can be perfect in any of this 10 ways to earn cash at home then you can become your own boss in no time
Absolutely! It’s all about committing yourself to do whatever is necessary to make it work. All of these ideas have worked for someone, just as they have all been unsuccessful for others. It’s the level of commitment that makes the difference. Best of luck in your endeavors, my friend!
A well written article. There are endless numbers of home based business one can engage in these days, and I think the best way to figure out which one to take up is to consider one’s passion. I’d like to add 2-3 other home based business that are iin high demand.
As a freelancer, one can work as a Graphics designer, designing logos, fliers, posters, banners and all other stuffs for businesses. One can easily be at a corner of his house, comfortably doing design works for others. Also, one can work as a digital marketer all in the comfort of one’s home, marketing, and promoting other businesses on social media platforms. The demand for digital marketers is on the the high side these days.
Another home based business is Virtual Assistance, the demand for VAs are also high now, People are now hiring others to assist them with office works that can be done remotely eg Data entry, web research and so on. One can easily be at the comfort of one’s home and carry out these tasks.
Yes, indeed! There are countless types of businesses one can get into. It’s important to stress that nowadays, especially with the emergence of automation and artificial intelligence. These two will have an even bigger impact on the future of employment than the industrial revolution. The landscape will change and the sooner people begin embracing alternatives to traditional employment, the more likely it is that they will be able to weather the coming storm. Best wishes and thanks for stopping by!
Thank u for writing about all homebased businesses. I believe u forgot one: Trading (stocks, bonds, currencies). But i know most people don’t believe they can make money out of it.
I am always inteterested in knowing more about making money from home and try it all out. That’s the only hobby i have in life. I have no friends, i don’t watch tv, i don’t play games, i barely use social media or chat unless it is for work. It’s all about work and learn and sleep. I am obsessed by it.
Freelance writing is something i didn’t think about as work until u have written about it in your article. This article is so helpful. I wil share it my facebookfriends. Maybe some of them are smart and wil take action.
Thank u for writing this.
Yes! I’ve made money both with stocks and cryptocurrencies. That can work out quite well. As for freelance writing, you can actually write about all that and invest whatever you earn from it, which is the opposite of what most people do with their paychecks. Typically, people earn a paycheck and start spending it right away, without making any attempt to maximize at least some of their earnings first. I typically take whatever I earn from freelancing, blogging and marketing, invest one third of it and live off the other two-thirds. Some people might be able to live off 90, 80, or just 50 percent of their income, depending on their situation. But at least a portion of it should be grown in some way. Best of luck to you, my friend! And thanks for stopping by!
This is a very clean looking website and easy on the eyes.
I personally love taking pictures but they are far from professional, and even if they were I think I would still do it as a hobby rather than making it job.
I have a friend that proof reads my content because the grammar check doesn’t always pick up on everything. I will have to suggest to her about freelance editing.
I often wondered if I should of researched my first niche idea, I have only been at it for a month now but it seems like I’m running out of content ideas already. I just chose that one because it’s a big part of my life.
These are all great ideas to earn some money, thank you for sharing.
Anytime, Amanda! I would suggest going into Quora to see what sorts of questions people are asking there about things related to your niche. You can also look for some groups within Facebook that have something to do with your niche. Just browse through their posts a bit and see what ideas you might find there. Best of luck to you and thanks so much for stopping by!
Thanks for the informative post! I equally realized that the internet has gone a long way in helping thousands of folks out there go fully engaged in online jobs. There was a time in the past when the government of the US had to cry out asking the people to come to the office. That was the extent to which the US people had leveraged the internet in the last few years.
Yes, affiliate marketing has been regarded as the most ideal way to make the most out of the online business industry and I’ve just started earning up to a thousand dollars monthly now promoting affiliate brands through my personal website. And I’m now preparing to become a super affiliate soon. Thanks for the great work!
That’s awesome, Israel! Yes, things have really changed. Best of luck to you, my friend!
These are really great ideas for home-based businesses, thanks for laying them out.
For more than half of my life I’ve been working for somebody else so I am hoping to put up a business that I can run from the comfort of my home. While this may not have been possible some decades ago, it is now because of the internet. Some of my friends have their own online stores while others are working as online tutors. Their businesses seem to be doing well, aside from the fact that they do not have to report for work everyday. So I envy their time freedom and I thought I should try it too.
Among your 10 best home-based businesses, I think I can do affiliate marketing and blogging. I understand that these are not get-rich-quick schemes and one needs to put in a lot of time and effort in order to make this work. But I am very much willing to learn the basics of this business and work hard in order to succeed. But does one really need to have a website in order to do affiliate marketing? Some people say you do not need a website to sell other people’s products. You just need your affiliate links that you can share on social media and when people buy, you’ll get paid.
So true, Alice! The Internet has indeed changed everything. Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest of these to get into, for sure. While it is possible to share your affiliate links on social media, you have to that sparingly and carefully. Some social media platforms may interpret your posts as spam if you do this too much. That’s why it’s usually best to direct your traffic to a blog post they can read and get some value out of, with your affiliate links placed in there. That or just a simple landing page with your affiliate links on it. Some people have been able to get away with just posting their affiliate links that way, but the fact that there really are so many scams out there is the reason why social media platforms are so quick to shut down accounts that post these links too often. Best of luck to you and thanks for stopping by!

Great Article ! It’s rather best to work from home than working from office. You get peace of mind and really focus on your work. when I was in a company as a designer I used finish my work from home and then used come to office just for meetings. Later I opted out from the job and I started working online fully as a freelancer and affiliate marketer.
